Maintenance of Your Outdoor Furniture

Category : Furniture

There is nothing more appealing for your home that outdoor furniture, even though exposure to the always-changing climate may deteriorate it faster than any other furniture.

Whether you are the owner of outdoor furniture or a buyer willing to get some items for your garden or yard, there are a few rules that you must keep in mind to prolong both the useful life of furniture and it’s appearance.

Outdoor furniture is usually expensive and hard to replace on a yearly basis so make sure to give it proper cleaning and care according to the instructions included by the manufacturer.

However, many people purchase second hand furniture that does not always include a cleaning guide or in the best of the cases, such direction are lost overtime. There is nothing to worry about because cleaning and maintenance of outdoor furniture is easy.

The first rule is keep the manufacturer’s instructions in a safe place, but if you have lost the information, keep in mind that almost all outdoor furniture can be cleaned with soap and water.

Aluminum furniture resists rust and water, but it needs frequent washings to be kept in good shape. Heavy furniture and some outdoor structures may require a pressure washer, although, they should be used at the lower setting.

Hammocks should be taken down if your do not use them on a daily or weekly basis and stored under a protected storage area. Regardless of the material, hammocks are decolorized by sunlight, shrink by continuous rains, and the fibers deteriorate by other climate changes.

Wash them with detergent and water, rinsing well with cold water and let it dry in the sun before placing the hammock back in their frame. Furniture with fabric or acrylic cushions should also be washed in same manner, periodically.

Umbrellas usually require some attention after being in storage for a long time. Wash their covers and keep frame joints well oiled. If you have one of those costly umbrellas with a wooden-frame, a paste wax can help you for maintenance and shine preservation.

If you have furniture made of plastic resin, a simple cleaning routine will be enough since this material is extremely durable and the only one that is weather resistant. Even though it is weather resistant discoloration or yellowing may occur after continuous sun exposure.

Clean your plastic resin furniture with a cloth or sponge dipped in waster with a non-abrasive all purpose cleaner or glass cleaner. If there is not much dirt or dust accumulated, wiping gently is usually enough.

Finally, if you have outdoor-wooden furniture pay attention to the coat, making sure it has an exterior-grade varnish that supports weather and cleaners. Use soapy water for cleaning, rinse with a wet cloth, and dry immediately, making sure to store this furniture indoors during winter.

Office and Outdoor Furniture – Invest in Style and Comfort

Category : Furniture

Working Better and Healthier with Fine Office Furniture

Comfort is the first consideration. Be it office chairs or desks, each of the furniture of an office ought to meet the standard of comfortability. A comfortable chair and desk in an office assure the workers a space to work better. Health surveys, be it UK or any other country, state that serious health problems like headache, body ache, mental stress or other psychological disorders are caused by poor sitting posture in office due to uncomfortable chairs. Thus, comfort level should come first. Affordability and style come next. It’s important that style of the chairs, desks, etc. is meeting the modern standard style. Office Furniture meant to be kept at reception has to be much more stylish than the one used at workplace.

Design Trends Worth Notice

Hi-tech and Tradition Perfectly Combined

The concept of “fittings” is what the systems are based on and allows the user to make an infinite number of configurations with the joints or fittings as they are called. The systems are great for any application from entertainment wall to storage units, and even beds

Convenience Taking Counts

Convenience seems to be driving many of the new furniture designs as it does so many other aspects of our lives. Take a cool computer desk for example. All the cables and computer components are contained within the desk and the top lifts for internal access. On the side of the desk reside the CD, RW/DVD, USB, and Hot Keys for a complete computer experience.

Multiple Configuration Options

Many designers are giving life to furniture that has multiple configuration options. The main reason for this emerging trend is versatility, allowing the piece to be used in spaces of various sizes. These modules are “based on shapes like graphically geometric, sinuous, and futuristic forms making this smart furniture useable in more settings.

Outdoor Seating: Bring Indoor Comfort to Outside

An innovative approach to outdoor seating, a wide curving sofa, a semi-circular footstool, small elliptical table and an arching canopy which can be mixed and matched to create the ideal arrangement for your summer’s leisure. The wide curving sofa when paired with the sweeping foot stool offers a huge base on which to recline and relax. Good outdoor furniture adds glamour and style to your gardens and patios.

Outdoor Furniture Choice

Cushions: Consumers want indoor comforts outside. Many companies sell furniture and umbrellas made with great fabrics, which are “pretty much indestructible.

Faux wicker: People like the look of wicker but want to leave furniture outdoors; hence the popularity of powder-coated frames covered by resin strips. Wicker feels like a vacation house.

Lounge seating: dinning sets are no longer the big draw. Customers want outdoor rooms to look more like lounges, experts say. Contemporary designs are a big part of this look.

Sofa Fashion

Sofa Bed with Multiple Function

There are many pieces on the market today that serve multiple purposes. One of my favorites is the sofa bed. I think sofa beds offer terrific functionality when needed and provide daily living requirements of being a great piece of furniture to lounge on. You will not always have overnight guests, but if you do, it is nice to offer them a place to sleep. Also, if your spouse, girlfriend, or boyfriend misbehaves, you can send them out to the sofa for a good night sleep!

Sectional Sofa: Functional and Space Save

A sectional sofa for a small space probably appears to be an oxymoron. How could there possibly be a perfect meeting of the two? Well, the honest answer is that in the right home, a sectional sofa could actually save you space! Centrally locating sofa pieces within a small living area not only lends to proper seating for conversation and intimacy, but could also make the space feel more spacious. If seating in one specific spot is not to your liking, with sectional pieces you have the ability to place them however you prefer. This would lend your own personal creative touch to the living room. When looking to purchase a sectional sofa, it would be a wise decision to locate a home furnishing store or website that sells each piece individually or as a whole. That way, if a set is too large you could subtract a couple of pieces and if a desired set is too small, you could add an extra piece. The ability to choose particular pieces allows you to mix and match, therefore, creating your own unique signature “look”.

The Material Quality Really Cares

When purchasing outdoor furniture for your space, you need to get something that is made out of higher quality materials. If you don’t, then what you purchase will end up breaking down under the elements and will have to be replaced sooner rather than later. Teak along with thick synthetic materials including polymer, resin, and recycled plastic. Every one of these materials will last for quite awhile. Plus, they are all very pleasing to the eye and can be made even more beautiful by the different finishes and colors that are applied to them, something that allows you to also personalize the look of your space. Like, if you just want that plain, sophisticated wood look, then you can get furniture made out of the Southern Cypress with just a clear finished applied to it. Or, if you are looking for something that has a little more flair and panache to it, then a great option would be to again get something made from Southern Cypress, but this time have a hand painted vibrant color applied.

How to Make Your Outdoor Furniture Look Young Again

Category : Furniture

With the imminent return of spring, its time to once again come out of our hibernation, and enjoy the great outdoors. The snow is melting, and the temperature is starting to grow outside. Start packing away the winter jackets once again, and get ready to spring forth once more!

Before you get the grill fired up, there is one major item you’ll want to check: the condition of your outdoor furniture. Even if you stored it in an enclosed space over the long winter, chances are the weather still affected it. The inconsistent warm and cold cycles throughout the season causes both wood and plastic to contract and expand over and over again. The result: weathered, worn down outdoor furniture that is neither welcoming nor wanted.

If you’re ready to throw out your furniture and go out to buy a whole new set, don’t do it yet – there is still hope. Even the oldest, most hardened outdoor furnishings can be renewed in a set of easy steps that will make it look like spring has come both inside and out!

● With all your wood furniture, start out by removing off all the old paint and finish. Remove old paint by scrubbing your furnishings with a brass wire brush. Afterwards, gently sand down your outdoor furniture with no less than 120-grit sandpaper. Always sand along the grain of the wood: move your sandpaper with the pattern of the wood (usually up and down along the wood).

● Once your outdoor furniture is sanded down, sand down once again with 180-grit sandpaper. Again, always go with the grain of the wood – sand along the pattern of the wood, and never against. Sand until the wood has a natural color to it, and is smooth to the touch. If you can run your hand against it and not have your hand get caught, the wood is ready to be re-treated.

● At this point, you have to make a decision for what you want for your outdoor furniture. Wood can either be painted or stained, with equally protective results. Painting wood will give it a finished look, while staining wood will give it a natural finish. When done correctly, both methods will keep your furnishings looking clean for years.

● If you decide to stain: decide on a color depending on your tastes and the theme you are looking for. Maple stains will have a dark, dignified finish, while a Pine stain will give you a light wood effect that is acceptable for most gardens. Cherry wood stains will give you a off-red color that is between both Maple and Pine.

● Always wear protective gloves when you stain, as many of the stains can be toxic. Also, try to stain in a well-ventilated area, to avoid fumes. Apply with a rag or light brush to apply. Wait 15 minutes before wiping off excess staining off the wood. If the color isn’t dark or rich enough for you, allow the stain to dry before you re-apply. Repeat until you reach the color that you desire.

● If you decide to paint, select an outdoor paint that will protect and seal the wood – your regular latex paint won’t work here. Apply a liberal amount of paint evenly over your outdoor furniture, and allow it to dry. Once you’ve painted a base coat, you can add different flares to make it your own. Try personalizing it by painting your name, or favorite team colors. The opportunities are endless!

The designs and possibilities for outdoor furniture can be as wild as your imagination allows. And with the springtime coming, there’s no better time to get it out and rework it for the new season. A little work now will make sure you have beautiful furnishings that will last for years to come.

Teak The Favorite Outdoor Furniture

Category : Furniture

Perhaps you are contemplating your first purchase of teak wood outdoor furniture and are wondering if you are making the right decision. Rest assured, however, teak wood has been favored for outdoor furniture for generations. This wood’s secrets are out and they have been for a long time.

When selecting furniture for their outdoor spaces, many people choose pieces made with teak. It is a hard, strong durable golden-brown wood, which is both resistant to the elements and requires little maintenance. Some people believe that outdoor wooden furniture can only be utilized in environments where there is little rain or snow. However, if you have outdoor furniture or benches made from teak, then you only need to make sure to maintain the pieces properly and they will continue to look fabulous in your home garden for many years to come. These characteristics make teak the ideal wood for outdoor furniture. It can be left outside uncovered all year.

Teak wood originates from and around Burma, Indonesia. Because the wood grows in areas where there are dramatic climactic changes between the dry and wet seasons, it is believed that the teak naturally develops a resiliency to many of nature’s forces. The wood of the teak tree is resistant to insects, warping, splintering and the elements, which makes it an ideal wood for creating furniture. The high concentrations of natural oils within the wood repel insects, mould and fungus. Teak is the most durable wood furniture you can buy, with a life expectancy of about 75 years. These properties have made it an extremely popular choice for people looking for garden and patio furniture.

No other wood furniture can come close to the excellence offered by teak outdoor furniture and while teak may be more expensive than furniture crafted from other materials, the benefits of this rare wood are well worth the price. If teak can endure the harsh elements of the raging seas, teak deck furniture can most definitely withstand whatever wear and tear your backyard may put it through.

The best teak garden furniture is usually machine made because the equipment that is used guarantees that the pieces will be well constructed and uniform. Teak garden or patio furniture sets that look warm and inviting encourage guests to sit for a while and relax. Teak furniture sets have a comfortable, casual feel to them.

From chairs to benches to tables and more, teak is the perfect wood for outside entertaining. The beautiful wood adds character and elegance to your outdoor design through a blending of nature and man-made elements which provide an outstanding aesthetic presentation to any yard. Teak garden furniture will make your garden beautiful and last so long that you can pass them on to your children.
